{"id":504,"date":"2011-07-22T18:41:59","date_gmt":"2011-07-22T18:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chefsjoy.com\/blog\/?p=504"},"modified":"2011-07-22T18:46:16","modified_gmt":"2011-07-22T18:46:16","slug":"blackberry-swirl-ice-cream","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chefsjoy.com\/blog\/recipes\/blackberry-swirl-ice-cream","title":{"rendered":"Blackberry Swirl Ice Cream"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chefsjoy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/ice-cream-maker-350-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-506\" title=\"antique ice cream churn -Photographed on Hasselblad H1-22mb Camera\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chefsjoy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/ice-cream-maker-350-2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chefsjoy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/ice-cream-maker-350-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.chefsjoy.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/ice-cream-maker-350-2.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is HOT outside!\u00a0 What is better on a hot day than a refreshing bowl of ice cream.\u00a0 I am using some of the blackberries that I canned a couple of months ago in a light syrup to make a swirled ice cream today.\u00a0 This recipe is for using fresh or frozen blackberries, as I would delete the sugar in the swirl since I had sugar already in them.\u00a0So don&#8217;t wait, find yourself some shade and make a batch!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong> Ice Cream<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1\u00a0cup \u00a0whole milk<\/p>\n<p>2\/3 cup sugar<\/p>\n<p>Pinch of salt<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 cups heavy cream<\/p>\n<p>5 large egg yolks<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 tsp vanilla<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blackberry Swirl<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 cups blackberries<\/p>\n<p>3 TBSP sugar<\/p>\n<p>1 TBSP vodka<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp lemon juice<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To make the ice cream<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warm the milk, sugar, and salt in a saucepan.<\/p>\n<p>Pour the cream into a large bowl and set a mesh strainer over the top of it.<\/p>\n<p>In another medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks. Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg yolks, whisking constantly, then put the warmed egg yolks back into the saucepan.<\/p>\n<p>Stir the mixture constantly over medium heat with a spatula, scraping the bottom as you stir, until the mixture thickens and coats the spatula. Pour the custard through the strainer and stir it into the cream. Add the vanilla and stir until cool over an ice bath.
